Veneers
At Litchfield Dental Associates, we love to see our patients smile! Some patients with badly stained, crooked, chipped or teeth with uneven surfaces, come in hoping for an easy way to transform their smile. Fortunately, one of the best solutions for these issues is veneers!
Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain or plastic which are cemented over the front of your teeth to change their color or shape. They have a long life expectancy and color stability, and they are very resistant to permanent staining from food and drinks, such as coffee.
Veneers do an excellent job masking undesirable defects, such as discoloration from certain antibiotics, an injury, a root canal, and fillings in the front teeth. Teeth that are chipped or worn can be transformed with veneers.
The Process
It typically takes about three appointments with the dentist to get your veneers made and then applied to your teeth. First the teeth are prepared by removing a small amount of enamel so the veneers will adhere properly to the surface of your teeth. A mold is taken of the teeth and sent to a special laboratory to make the veneers. Little to no anesthesia is needed to prepare your teeth for veneers.
You will come back to have the veneers placed on the tooth surface to check their fit and ensure they are the proper shade or color. Once you and the dentist are satisfied with the fit and color, the veneers are cemented into place.
After about two weeks, you will return for a follow-up appointment with the dentist to ensure you are happy with your new smile!
